At the Grande Premio De Portugal, track making its F1 debut, Lewis Hamilton who is chasing the drivers’ championship and the all-time record for race wins, pipped Valtteri Bottas to pole position.
Bottas took pole first before Hamilton, who stole pole by just over one tenth with a time of 1:16.652. This was Hamilton’s ninth pole of the season, including the 97th of his career. This has led to Mercedes having every pole this season.

In the race that started after a 30-minute delay due to rain, Max Verstappen finished third and Charles Leclerc, fourth.
